Evaporative Dog Cooling Vest — Reflective, Leash-Clip Back

This is an evaporative vest, which means it works the way sweat does: soak it in water, wring it out, and as the water evaporates it draws heat away from your dog's body. In a dry inland summer that effect is dramatic. In humid coastal heat it still helps, though you will want to re-wet it more often.

We built it for the conditions that actually catch people out here — the 35-degree afternoon walk, the drive to the beach, the sporting event where your dog insists on coming along. The reflective trim keeps them visible at dusk when the temperature finally drops enough for a longer walk, and the back opening lines up with a harness so you can clip a lead through without taking the vest off.

The fabric is light enough that a short-haired breed will tolerate it, and the fit sits close without restricting the shoulders, so most dogs forget they are wearing it after a minute or two.

Sizing: measure the chest at its widest point and the length from collar to tail base — chest is the measurement that matters most. If your dog is between sizes, size up.

Care: rinse after use, especially after salt water, and dry flat in shade. Re-soak whenever it dries out on long days out.

Important: a cooling vest is a comfort aid, not a substitute for shade, water and avoiding the hottest part of the day. Flat-faced breeds feel heat far sooner — watch them closely.
